Description

Step off the dock at six in the morning, coffee in hand, and watch the mist lift off the water. That's a Tuesday in Vätö. The Stockholm archipelago has a way of recalibrating your sense of time, and this two-bedroom house on Gösens väg 7 sits right at the heart of it — quiet cul-de-sac, mature pines, 2,128 square meters of your own land, and a boat berth included. It's the kind of setup that makes you wonder why you ever waited.

Vätö is one of those islands that Stockholmers talk about among themselves but rarely broadcast widely. Part of Norrtälje municipality, roughly 90 minutes north of the city by car via the E18 and Route 76, it sits in the northern reaches of the Upplandskusten archipelago — a region of granite outcrops, glassy inlets, and fishing villages where the pace of life is genuinely different. Not postcard-different. Actually different. The ferry from Simpnäs runs regularly, and that short crossing over the water has a way of drawing a clean line between your city life and your island life.

The house itself was built in 1973 and has been kept in solid condition by its current owners. Sixty-three square meters of main living space, which sounds compact until you step inside and realize how efficiently it's been laid out. The living room pulls in natural light through large windows — on summer mornings the effect is almost theatrical, the sun cutting across the wooden floor before the day gets going. The kitchen is functional and properly equipped, arranged so that whoever's cooking doesn't end up isolated from the rest of the room. That matters when you've got friends coming up from the city for midsommar and everyone gravitates toward the kitchen anyway.

Both bedrooms are well-proportioned and quiet, tucked away from the main living areas. The veranda is arguably where this house earns its keep during the long Swedish summer — wide enough for a proper table and chairs, sheltered enough to make it useful even when it's not warm enough to sit elsewhere. On a clear July evening, with the light still going at ten o'clock, it's hard to think of a better place to be.

Beyond the main house, there are two guest cottages on the plot. These add real flexibility — use them as overflow accommodation when family visits, set one up as a home office or painting studio, or simply let them breathe as storage and hobby space. For anyone planning to use this as a base for extended stays or multigenerational holidays, the extra square footage matters considerably.

The plot itself is generous and private, ringed by mature trees that give it a sense of enclosure without feeling hemmed in. There's space for a kitchen garden, for children to run around, for a hammock strung between two birches. The kind of garden that rewards time — plant things in spring, come back in August to harvest them.

Five minutes' walk brings you to a sandy swimming beach, which in Sweden's short, intense summer is genuinely everything. The Baltic coast around Vätö warms to swimmable temperatures by late June and stays that way through August, and this particular stretch of coast is calm and shallow — ideal for families. The included boat berth takes things further. Having your own berth in the archipelago is not a given; it's something people wait years for. With a small motorboat or a kayak, the outer islands and hidden coves of the Norrtälje archipelago open up completely.

Vätö and the surrounding area have their own seasonal rhythm that rewards people who come back repeatedly. Winters here are real — temperatures regularly drop below freezing between December and March, the landscape shifts to monochrome, and the silence deepens considerably. The house is winterized and equipped with efficient heating for exactly this reason. Cross-country ski tracks open up through the forests, and the frozen inlets attract ice fishers who drill holes and wait with the patience of people who know what they're doing. The shoulder seasons — May and September — are arguably the most atmospheric times to be here, when the island isn't crowded but the light is extraordinary.

Norrtälje town, about 35 kilometers south, provides everything practical: supermarkets, hardware stores, restaurants, a hospital, and a summer arts scene that runs through July and August. The town hosts the Rosfestivalen every summer, a community celebration that draws people from across the region. For day trips, the medieval church ruins at Edebo and the hiking trails through Färsna nature reserve are both within easy reach. Serious hikers will want to explore the Roslagsleden, a long-distance trail that winds through this entire coastal region and passes through some of the quietest and most genuinely wild terrain in the Stockholm archipelago.

From an investment standpoint, Swedish archipelago properties have held their value through successive market cycles with notable consistency. International buyers should be aware that there are no restrictions on EU or non-EU citizens purchasing property in Sweden, and the buying process is transparent and relatively straightforward. Ownership costs — local municipality fees, property tax, and maintenance — are manageable on a property of this size and type. For buyers considering rental income, short-term holiday rentals in the Norrtälje archipelago command strong seasonal demand, particularly July through early August, with platforms like Blocket Bostad and Airbnb both active in this market.

Key features at a glance:

- 2-bedroom house, 63 sqm, built 1973, good condition
- Two additional guest cottages on the property
- Generous 2,128 sqm private plot with mature trees
- Included boat berth in the archipelago
- 5-minute walk to a sandy swimming beach
- Year-round winterized house with efficient heating
- Quiet cul-de-sac position on Gösens väg, Vätö island
- 90 minutes by car from central Stockholm
- Part of Norrtälje municipality with full local services
- Spacious veranda for outdoor living
- Bright, open-plan living and kitchen layout
- Access to Roslagsleden hiking trail network
- No foreign ownership restrictions in Sweden
- Strong short-term rental demand in peak summer season

If you've been looking at holiday homes in Sweden and keeping an eye on the northern Stockholm archipelago, properties on Vätö with a boat berth don't sit on the market long. This one asks SEK 219,500 — fair value for what's here, and a realistic entry point into a property market that international buyers are increasingly paying attention to.

Picture this: it's a Tuesday morning in late June, the kind where the Baltic light hits the water at a low angle and turns everything gold. You've walked four minutes from your front door, untied your boat from your own private mooring, and you're out on the Åland Sea before the rest of the world has poured its first coffee. That's not a fantasy — that's a Tuesday at Havsvägen 17. Set in Hammarskogen, a tight-knit coastal community along Roslagen's famously rugged shoreline in Norrtälje municipality, this three-bedroom holiday home sits on a genuinely generous 2,003 square metre plot. It's the kind of property that feels increasingly rare along this stretch of the Swedish coast: fully winterized, move-in ready, with its own guest house, a terrace that runs almost the full length of the building, and direct access to a shared marina where your boat mooring comes with the house. Not rented. Not shared. Yours. The main house, built in 1991 and maintained in solid condition throughout, is laid out on a single level — practical for families with young kids or guests who don't want to navigate a Swedish staircase at midnight. Step inside and you get a welcoming hallway, three proper bedrooms, and a bathroom done in a clean, unfussy colour palette that doesn't scream "1990s summer cabin." The open kitchen and living room flow into each other in a way that makes the 74 square metres feel lived-in rather than cramped. On long evenings when you've pulled mackerel or perch from the water and want to cook while still being in the conversation, this layout earns its keep. What sets this property apart from the average Roslagen stuga is the infrastructure. Air-source heat pump. Vacuum toilet connected to the community sewage system ... click here to read more

The wood-burning stove is already crackling by the time you pull off your ski boots. Outside the south-facing terrace windows, the last of the afternoon light turns the Funäsdalen peaks a deep copper-rose. This is a Tuesday in January, and it feels nothing like ordinary life. Slalomvägen 8 sits on the Baggården ridge in Messlingen, a small community folded into Härjedalen's high country — one of Sweden's least-crowded and most underrated mountain districts. The cabin occupies a generous 1,716 square metres of natural plot, elevated just enough above the surrounding terrain that the view over the lake and the range beyond it is wide open and unobstructed. You don't have to look for the scenery here. It finds you. The log structure itself has been renovated with real care. That word gets thrown around a lot in property listings, but you'll see the difference the moment you walk in. The work was done to preserve the character of the original building — the warm tones of the timber, the low ceilings that make rooms feel like they're actually holding you — while adding a kitchen and bathroom that don't require apology. Three bedrooms sleep a family comfortably, or a group of friends who don't mind being cosy. The bathroom has a proper shower. The kitchen has counter space and a sensible layout, which matters more than it sounds when you're feeding six people after a full day on the trails. The living room is the heart of it. Open plan, connected to the kitchen, with the stove sitting in the corner like it owns the place — which, honestly, it does. In the evenings, after dinner, this is where everyone ends up. Someone brings a bottle of something. The fire does the rest. Step through the glass doors onto the south-facing t ... click here to read more

You wake up to the sound of nothing. Not the traffic kind of nothing, but the real kind — a woodpecker somewhere deep in the pines, water lapping at the shore fifty meters down the slope, and the faint creak of the house settling in the morning air. You put the coffee on in the kitchen, glance through the wide window at the lake below, and wonder, not for the first time, why it took you so long to find this place. Götuddevägen 39 sits on a generous 2,396-square-meter plot on the edge of Göten, a small lakeside community tucked into the heart of Östergötland County in central Sweden. It's the kind of address that doesn't come up often — elevated, private, with an uninterrupted water view and no neighbors close enough to interrupt the quiet. The main house, 58 square meters built in 1993, is compact but genuinely livable. Large windows pull the lake view right into the living room, so even on a grey November afternoon you feel connected to the landscape outside. The kitchen is practical without being spartan. The bedroom handles a double bed with room to spare. Everything works, everything is maintained, and nothing demands immediate attention — this is move-in ready, not a project. What makes the property genuinely unusual is the second residential building on the same plot. This isn't a garden shed. It's a proper additional structure with real utility — guest accommodation for summer visitors, a workspace for anyone who takes remote work seriously, or a hobby studio that keeps the mess out of the main house. And there's a guest cottage beyond that. Three separate structures, one plot, one price. That kind of flexibility in a rural Swedish setting at this price point is rare enough to stop and pay attention. The plot i ... click here to read more

Picture this: it's a Saturday morning in late June, and you're standing barefoot on the covered patio at Vreta 17, coffee in hand, watching the midsummer light filter through birch leaves so green they almost hurt to look at. The garden smells of damp earth and wild strawberries. Somewhere across the field, a cuckoo is at it again. You're fifty minutes from Stockholm, but you might as well be on another planet. That's the daily reality of owning this two-bedroom house in Hölö — a small, quietly compelling village in Södertälje municipality, south of the capital. This isn't a property that screams for attention. It earns it slowly, the way good places do. The house was built in 1972 and sits on a generous 2,730 square meters of land. Eighty-two square meters of living space doesn't sound massive on paper, but the layout is thoughtful enough that nothing feels squeezed. You walk in through what's currently used as a dining room — a flexible space that could just as naturally become an entry hall or a quiet work-from-wherever corner. The kitchen follows: wooden cabinet fronts, the smell of old pine, a stove and oven setup that handles everything from quick pasta to a slow Sunday baking session. The extractor fan hums. Bread rises on the counter. It works the way a kitchen should. The living room is the heart of this place, and the fireplace is the heart of the living room. Come October, when the birches outside turn amber and the nights close in fast, that fire becomes less of a feature and more of a necessity. Pull a chair close, crack a book, let the logs do their thing. A wooden staircase off the main room climbs up to a loft — not a grand space, but a genuinely useful one. Picture this: it's a Tuesday evening in late July, the kind where the sky over Norrtälje doesn't fully darken until well past ten. You've spent the afternoon swimming at Vattudalens beach, ten minutes on foot through the birch trees. Now you're sitting on the rocky outcrop at the back of the garden, a glass of something cold in hand, listening to absolutely nothing except wind through pine branches and the occasional splash from next door's dock. This is what Lännavägen 332 actually feels like to own. The house itself was built in 1966 and sits on a generous plot of 2,862 square meters — an uncommon amount of breathing room for this part of Norrtälje municipality. At 65 square meters of living space, the main house is compact but genuinely functional. Two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and one bathroom. Nothing oversized, nothing wasted. The kind of layout that Swedes have been getting right for decades: enough room for family life, small enough that someone who uses the place seasonally isn't drowning in upkeep. What sets this property apart isn't the square footage — it's the compound feel. A separate guest house sits on the plot, entirely independent from the main building. That means you can have your parents or a couple of friends staying without anyone compromising anyone else's routine. The guest house doubles well as a home office, a painting studio, or a teenage bolthole, depending on what phase of life you're in when you buy it. Then there's the sauna. Wood-fired, with a shower, and positioned far enough from the main house to feel like its own ritual. In Sweden, the sauna isn't an amenity — it's a social institution. You fire it up before dinner, not after. Guests arrive, everyone takes turns, conversa ... click here to read more

Stand at the kitchen window on a Tuesday morning in late June, coffee in hand, and watch the light hit the water somewhere between Svanesund and the open Skagerrak. It doesn't get old. That particular shade of silver-blue the Swedish west coast does in the early hours — before the motorboats start crossing, before anyone's really awake — it's the kind of thing people drive four hours from Gothenburg or Stockholm to see, and here it's just the view from your kitchen. Kastet 711 sits on Stillingsön, a small island on Orust's northern edge connected by bridge to the mainland. Orust itself is Sweden's third-largest island, and the stretch of coast up here around Svanesund has stayed quieter than the more tourist-saturated southern parts. No souvenir shops. No queues for ice cream. Just saltwater, granite, and the particular rhythm of Swedish archipelago life — which, once you've experienced it, is genuinely hard to give up. The house is compact and honest. Built in 1957, it sits high on its plot with that unobstructed sea view as the architectural centrepiece. The single-level living space — 58 square metres — runs kitchen into dining into living room in a layout that always keeps you oriented toward the water. Big windows. Light in summer that goes on until 10 or 11 at night. The bedroom is quietly tucked away from the social end of the house, which matters more than people realise when you're hosting. One bathroom. Everything you need, nothing unnecessary. The basement level adds serious practical value: proper storage for kayaks, wetsuits, crab pots, bicycles, all the gear that accumulates when you actually use a place rather than just admire it. Some owners use it as a workshop. Others have set it up as a basic hobby r ... click here to read more

Close your eyes and picture this: it's a Tuesday morning in late June. You've just made coffee and you're carrying it out to the south-facing terrace in bare feet, the wooden planks still cool beneath you. The air smells faintly of salt and pine resin. Somewhere down the hill, past the juniper scrub, there's a swimming cove where the water goes from translucent green to deep blue about twenty metres from shore. You're not in a rush. You don't have to be. That's the daily reality of owning a holiday home on Mjörn, the small island off the western edge of Tjörn in Bohuslän—Sweden's most beloved stretch of coastline, and arguably the least hyped. While Marstrand draws the sailing crowds and Gothenburg pulls the weekend breakers, this corner of Tjörns kommun stays quiet on purpose. The roads narrow to single tracks between pink granite outcrops. Neighbours wave when they drive past. The pace here is genuinely slow, not performatively so. This two-bedroom house at Trankoket 51 sits on 778 square metres of its own land, tucked into the rocky, heather-covered landscape that defines the archipelago's interior. Built in 1996 by the current owners, the place has aged the way good Swedish summer houses do: honestly. Solid construction, maintained with real care, no shortcuts. At 65 square metres of living space across the main floor, it's compact and considered—every room earns its keep. The kind of house where you quickly figure out what you actually need and realise it isn't much. Step inside and the layout makes immediate sense. A welcoming hallway leads into a bright living room that opens directly onto the terrace—so in summer the boundary between inside and outside becomes almost theoretical. Early on a July morning, the light in central Sweden does something you don't expect the first time you see it. By six o'clock it's already golden, cutting through the birch trees at the edge of the garden and landing flat across the water. From the terrace at Sättervägen 33, with coffee in hand and not another soul in sight, Lake Tisaren sits just a few hundred meters away — glassy, quiet, entirely yours to walk to whenever you feel like it. That's the daily reality of this place. This is a two-bedroom, single-story house in Tisarstrand, a small lakeside community within Hallsbergs kommun in Örebro County. At 88 square meters, it's compact enough to be genuinely low-maintenance, but the 2,592-square-meter garden around it gives the whole property a sense of scale and openness that the square footage alone doesn't capture. You're not living on top of your neighbors here. You've got space to breathe. The house dates from 1960 and has been well cared for. The single-story layout is practical in the Swedish countryside way — no stairs, no wasted space, everything where you need it. Three rooms and a kitchen arranged sensibly, with a living area that draws in natural light through generous windows facing the garden. In summer, the greenery outside those windows is so close and so dense it shifts the whole color of the room. In winter, you can watch snow accumulate on the birch branches without leaving the couch. The kitchen is functional and honest — good worktop space, adequate storage, and a layout that makes it easy to cook a proper meal after a day out on the lake. It connects naturally to the living and dining areas, which matters when you have friends staying and everyone gravitates toward food. The two bedrooms are ... click here to read more

Step out onto the dock at six in the morning, coffee in hand, and the Gulf of Bothnia is completely yours. The water is glass-flat, the sky already pale gold — this far north in summer, the sun barely bothers to set — and your boat bobs quietly against the jetty planks. That's Frevisören 138 on a Tuesday in July. Nothing extraordinary about it. Just another morning that feels like a gift. Positioned front-row on the water in Frevisören, a small coastal settlement that sits within the broader Kalix archipelago along Sweden's northeastern shoreline, this two-bedroom holiday home is the kind of place that Swedish families pass down through generations. When one comes to market, people notice. The 1,476-square-meter lot drops straight to the sea, and the private jetty — a genuine working dock, not a decorative platform — gives you immediate, no-fuss access to some of the most rewarding boating waters in northern Sweden. You can be out among the islands within minutes of leaving the house. The main house, 55 square meters built in 1963 and thoughtfully updated since, doesn't try to be something it isn't. It's a proper Swedish summer house — compact, well-organized, bright. Large windows in the living room pull the sea view inside, so even when you're on the sofa reading, you're aware of the water shifting and glinting outside. The kitchen is modern and practical: good storage, enough counter space, and a layout that actually works when you're frying fresh perch and someone else is making salad at the same time. The dining area sits just off the kitchen and looks out over the lot and the waterfront beyond. Meals there have a tendency to last longer than planned. The first morning you wake up here, the sound you hear isn't traffic or neighbours. It's the knock of a wooden boat hull against the dock, and the low call of a loon somewhere out on Lake Ljugaren. Open the window and you catch pine resin on the breeze. That's the daily opening scene at Born Sjögatan 11 — a two-bedroom holiday house in Born, a hamlet so quiet and so green that it takes roughly a day before your shoulders drop back to where they should be. Born sits about 15 minutes by car from Rättvik in the heart of Dalarna, arguably the most Swedish of all Sweden's provinces. Rättvik is the town on the southern tip of Lake Siljan that hosts Music at Lake Siljan every July — one of Scandinavia's biggest folk and classical music festivals, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to its open-air stages along the water. You're far enough from that summer buzz to sleep through it, and close enough to cycle in for an evening concert and still be back before dark. The house itself was built in 1945 and covers 60 square metres across three rooms and a kitchen. It's in good condition — not a project, not a gut renovation. The layout is tight in the best Nordic sense: nothing wasted, everything considered. Large windows face the garden and draw in long Dalarna light, the kind that in June stays golden until 10 at night and makes you push dinner later and later just to stay in it. The kitchen is practical and honest, ready to handle a midsommar feast or a simple plate of gravlax and crispbread. Below the main floor, there's a basement of around 55 square metres — currently unfinished, which is the interesting part. That space could become a proper guest bedroom and bathroom, a workshop for anyone who does woodworking or boat mai ... click here to read more

Step outside on a July morning and the air smells like pine resin and cold saltwater. The bay below Notsand catches the early light in that particular way it only does on the High Coast — glassy, silver-pink, utterly still except for a cormorant cutting low across the surface. You're standing on Swedish granite that's been rising out of the sea for ten thousand years, still climbing a few millimetres every century, and somehow this small house from 1946 has a front-row seat to all of it. Notsand sits along one of the more quietly kept stretches of Västernorrland's coastline, roughly seven kilometres from the centre of Härnösand. The road in takes you past spruce forest and meadows that in late June fill up with lupins, then suddenly you're above the water, looking out at the archipelago islands scattered across the Bothnian Sea. The property at Notsand 130 occupies a 1,533-square-metre plot where the tree line gives way to open rock and open sky. It's genuinely rare to find this combination — a buildable private plot, mature trees at the back, and an uninterrupted water view from the living room windows — at this price point anywhere on the High Coast. Inside, the house is compact and honest. Sixty-one square metres, two bedrooms, one bathroom. Built in 1946 with the solid post-war Scandinavian sensibility that valued simplicity and durability over flourish. The main living and dining space faces the water, and the windows are generous enough that you're never not aware of the sea. On grey November afternoons the bay goes the colour of pewter and the pines creak in the wind — it's atmospheric in a way that a lot of coastal properties never quite achieve. Some mornings you wake up to absolute silence. No traffic. No neighbors. Just the soft creak of old timber, the flicker of light through dormer windows, and the faint smell of birch forest drifting in through the glass. That's the reality of life at Flahult Norra Hult — a 1888 Swedish torp with a completely renovated interior, sitting on nearly 2.4 acres of meadow and deciduous woodland outside Vittaryd in Ljungby municipality, southern Sweden. This is not a fixer-upper dressed up in nice photos. The renovation work here spans 2012 to 2025 and covers virtually everything except the original timber frame — which is exactly the part worth keeping. New floor structure, new exterior cladding, new insulation, new electrical and plumbing, new kitchen, new bathroom, a raised roofline, and a brand-new 45-square-meter terrace completed just this year. The bones are 19th century. Everything else is essentially new construction inside a historic shell. Let's talk about that shell for a moment. The entrance veranda sets the tone immediately — beadboard walls, a painted wooden ceiling, wide cross-laminated oak plank floors that feel solid and warm underfoot. A custom-built staircase carries you upstairs, but down here on the ground floor, the open kitchen and living room flow around a central chimney with a Scan wood-burning stove installed in 2016. Light it on a November evening and the whole room changes. The stove draws outside air, burns efficiently, and throws out real heat — not the performative warmth of something decorative. The kitchen itself was fitted in 2015 and keeps the country aesthetic honest: beadboard, compact cabinetry, an oak countertop, and a preserved Norrahammar No. 3 baking oven tucked in beside the modern c ... click here to read more

Step out onto the terrace on a July morning and the fjord is right there — silver-grey and glassy before the wind picks up, with the faint chug of a fishing boat rounding the headland. That's Kolvik at 7am in summer. By 9am, someone's already swimming off the rocks at the community beach. By noon, the smell of grilled fish drifts through the garden from three different directions. This is the rhythm of life at Kolvik 757, and it doesn't take long before you'd trade almost anything to make it yours permanently. Sitting just 150 meters from the edge of Gullmarsfjorden — one of Sweden's deepest fjords and one of the most quietly dramatic stretches of the Bohuslän coast — this two-bedroom holiday home sits on an elevated plot that gives it a view most coastal properties in this price bracket simply can't match. The fjord is always in your eyeline. Morning coffee on the terrace, afternoon reading on the balcony off the second bedroom, evening drinks as the light turns amber over the water. The position alone is worth the trip out to see it. The house itself is 73 square meters of honest, functional Swedish summer home. It's in good condition, though it carries the personality of a place lived in for decades rather than staged for photographs. The kitchen has a serving hatch that opens into the living room — a small detail that tells you everything about how this house was designed to be used: sociably, casually, with kids running between rooms and someone always half-involved in the cooking. The living room has proper space for a sofa group and a dining table, which matters when you're planning to pack the place with family in August. Step outside on a January morning and the cross-country ski trail is right there — literally at the edge of the property. No driving to a trailhead, no fighting for parking at the ski center. You clip into your skis, push off into the blue-white silence of Jämtland's hill country, and the day belongs entirely to you. That's the daily reality at Fingerörtstigen 6 in Klövsjö/Storhogna, and it's the kind of thing that's almost impossible to put a price on. This is a well-kept, 67-square-meter holiday house on a generous 1,506-square-meter plot in one of central Sweden's most beloved mountain communities. Built in 2001, it sits in Bergs municipality — part of the greater Härjedalen-Jämtland high-country corridor that Swedes and an increasingly international crowd have quietly treasured for decades. The house is in good condition and genuinely move-in ready, which matters when you're buying from abroad and can't spend your first season knee-deep in renovation dust. The layout is compact but genuinely clever. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a living room that manages to feel like the center of gravity rather than an afterthought. Large windows pull the outside in — snow-draped spruce trees in winter, a green hillside haze in July, the burnt orange of birch leaves come late September. The kitchen is fully equipped and connects naturally to the dining area, so whoever's cooking doesn't get exiled from the conversation. For a family of four or a group of close friends, this works. Really works. Outside, the plot is what sets this property apart from the tighter holiday cabins that dominate this market. 1,506 square meters is room to breathe. Step outside on a September morning and the air hits you — sharp, clean, carrying the faint scent of pine resin and something faintly mineral from the Vindel River less than a kilometre away. The birches are turning. A pair of cranes cuts across a sky that seems impossibly wide up here. This is Sorsele, deep in Swedish Lapland, and life at Stridsmark 133 moves at a pace that most people have forgotten is possible. The house itself was built in 1949, and it carries that era's sensibility honestly — solid, no-nonsense, built to handle winters that dip well below minus twenty without complaint. The main structure covers 84 square metres with an additional 24 square metres of secondary space, useful for storing skis, fishing rods, canoes, or whatever gear your version of Lapland life requires. The plot runs to 1,400 square metres, which out here doesn't feel like a garden so much as a small piece of the Swedish wilderness you actually own. Inside, large windows make the most of the light — and in July, when the sun barely sets, that matters enormously. The rooms are well-proportioned and functional, the kind of space that invites people to actually use it rather than just admire it. The kitchen is set up for real cooking: think elk stew simmering after a day out, or lingonberry jam made from berries picked on your own land. The single bedroom is quiet. Properly quiet. The bathroom is maintained and fully operational. Everything here is in good condition and ready to use from day one. The 1,400 square metre plot deserves its own paragraph. Part of it is lawn, part wild, and there's room to expand a kitchen garden, add a wood-fired hot tub, or simply leave it as the deer corridor it already seems to be. The alarm doesn't wake you here. What does is the sound of water lapping 150 meters from your bedroom window, and the particular quiet of a Swedish morning before the rest of the world catches up. That's life at Nällsta 12, a two-bedroom cottage sitting on a generous 1,425 square meter plot in Stallarholmen, one of those unhurried lakeside communities along Lake Mälaren that Swedes tend to keep to themselves. Lake Mälaren is not a small lake. It stretches roughly 120 kilometers west of Stockholm, and on a clear July afternoon from your wooden deck, the water holds a kind of flat silver light that makes you want to pour a second coffee and stay put. This is Sweden's third-largest lake, dotted with islands, historic manor houses, and the kind of fishing that calls for an early start and a thermos. Your boat berth comes with the property — direct access to all of it. You can motor out to a quiet inlet by nine in the morning and not see another soul. The cottage itself, built in 1970, sits in good condition and is ready to move in and use as-is. At 51 square meters, the main house is compact and honest about what it is: a proper Swedish sommarstuga, a summer cottage built for the season that Swedes genuinely live for. The living room opens through to a spacious timber deck — the kind of outdoor space that becomes the real living room from May through September. Large windows pull daylight deep into the interior, and the mature trees on the plot cast the kind of dappled afternoon shade that no architect can actually design. Two bedrooms handle a small family or a rotating cast of weekend guests comfortably. The kitchen is functional and practical, the shower room and separate WC (fitted with a Separett composting toilet, wh ... click here to read more

The wood-burning stove is already crackling when you pull off your boots. Outside, the spruce trees are loaded with fresh snow, the thermometer reads minus twelve, and you genuinely don't care—because the sauna is heating up, there's elk stew on the 2020-renovated kitchen stove, and the snowmobile trails start practically at the garden gate. This is what owning a cabin in Fjällbyn actually feels like. Sitting at Fjällbyn 147 in Föllinge, deep in Jämtland's Krokom municipality, this two-bedroom cabin with a loft and a separate sauna building is one of those properties that works hard in every season. Sixty square metres of living space sounds compact until you step inside and realise how the open-plan layout, generous ceiling height, and connecting loft make the place feel considerably larger. The large windows pull the surrounding forest right into the room, so the view changes daily—bare birch branches in October, a solid white blanket by December, and by late June, a rolling green that goes on forever. Seven hundred metres separates the front door from Åkersjön lake. Walk it in under ten minutes on a summer morning and you're at the water's edge before the mist has fully lifted. Åkersjön is one of those Jämtland lakes that feels genuinely wild—good Arctic char fishing, calm paddling water, and a shoreline where you can swim without another person in sight. Locals drive up from Östersund specifically for the pike fishing in early autumn. In winter, the lake freezes hard and becomes part of the snowmobile network that links Fjällbyn to the broader Jämtland trail system, hundreds of kilometres of marked routes that connect to Strömsund, Åre, and beyond. Six o'clock on a July morning and the light here is already gold. You push open the kitchen window and catch the faint salt-and-pine smell drifting up from the water at Räfsnäs, just five minutes down the track on foot. The coffee is on. Somewhere across the garden, a wood pigeon is doing what wood pigeons do. This is Bokenäs — and if you've never spent a summer on this stretch of the Bohuslän coast, you're in for a genuine revelation. Hjalmars väg 5 sits on a southwest-facing plot in the Eriksberg neighborhood, a quietly sought-after pocket of Uddevalla municipality where most houses go dark from September to May and come magnificently alive in June. The property dates from the 1930s and carries that era's unhurried sensibility: proper rooms with real proportions, large windows that pull the garden indoors, and the kind of robust timber construction that has laughed off nine decades of Swedish winters without drama. Three bedrooms, two living rooms, one bathroom — 76 square meters of main house that feels bigger than the number suggests, partly because of those windows and partly because the layout was designed for actual living, not a floor-plan brochure. The garden is the heart of everything. Southwest aspect means sun from late morning until the evenings go rose-pink around ten o'clock in high summer. There's room for a long table under the trees, a hammock, a patch for growing tomatoes that never quite ripen but you keep trying anyway, and enough grass for children to run themselves properly tired. The guest cottage — a simple, functional annex on the same plot — handles the overflow when friends arrive, which they will, repeatedly, once word gets out you have this place. Six o'clock on a July evening. The sun is still high enough to throw long gold stripes across the southwest-facing terrace, your glass is cold, and the only sound drifting over the farmland is a distant tractor and the swallows cutting arcs above the garden. That's the rhythm of Utvedavägen 152 — and once you've felt it, city life stops making as much sense. Vätö is one of those places that Stockholmers have quietly kept to themselves for decades. The island sits within the greater Stockholm archipelago, connected to the mainland by the Vätö Bridge, close enough to the capital that a Friday afternoon drive gets you here before dinner, far enough that you genuinely leave the week behind. The community of Utveda, where this property sits, is the kind of place where the roads are narrow on purpose and the neighbors actually know each other. The house itself was built in 1973 and has been kept in good condition — solid, practical, honest Swedish construction that doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. Seventy-six square meters spread across three bedrooms and a full living-dining-kitchen setup. The layout is sensible rather than showy: a proper hallway that keeps the mud outside, a kitchen fully kitted with dishwasher, oven, stove, fridge, and a dedicated dining area big enough for a family gathering, and a bathroom with shower and WC that handles the realities of summer living without complaint. This is not a renovation project. Move in, open the windows, start living. What makes the property is the land around it. The corner plot runs to 2,229 square meters — in Swedish archipelago terms, that's genuinely generous. Saturday morning. You pull open the heavy wooden door of the sauna house, and the birch-scented steam rolls out across the rocky knoll while the Stockholm archipelago sits quiet and silver through the trees. The wood-fired hot tub is still warm from the night before. Nobody else is awake yet. This is Vätö — and once you've had a morning like that, it's almost impossible to go back to ordinary weekends. Krokusstigen 10 sits on the island of Vätö in Norrtälje municipality, about 90 kilometres north of Stockholm, connected to the mainland by a bridge that makes this feel accessible without ever feeling crowded. The property is a classic Swedish sommarstuga in spirit — built in 1956, with all the soul that comes from a house that has absorbed decades of long evenings and midsummer celebrations — but the practical side has been kept firmly in the present. This is not a project. It's move-in ready and waiting. The main house runs to 60 square metres, which sounds compact until you step out onto the large wooden terraces and realise the living space effectively doubles in summer. Swedes know how to design for the outdoors, and this house is proof. The terraces wrap around the property in a way that catches light at different hours of the day — morning coffee on one side, evening wine on the other as the sun drops low over the pines. Inside, the living room is anchored by a masonry open fireplace with a Roslag insert, the kind of cast-iron fitting that's been keeping archipelago families warm for generations. Light a fire in September, crack a window, and listen to the first autumn wind move through the birch trees outside. That fireplace earns its keep from August through to May. The layout is honest and well-proportioned. A ... click here to read more

Early July on Vätö, and the light never quite leaves the sky. By nine in the evening it's still pale gold through the birch trees, and from the south-facing deck at Svartträskvägen 19 you can hear absolutely nothing except the occasional woodpecker working through the pines. That specific silence — no traffic, no neighbors' televisions, no city hum — is what people drive two hours north from Stockholm to find. This is it. Vätö is one of those places that Stockholmers tend to keep quietly to themselves. Technically an island in the northern Stockholm archipelago within Norrtälje municipality, it's connected by road so you arrive without any ferry anxiety, yet the moment you cross onto the island the pace genuinely shifts. The air smells different — pine resin and lake water — and the roads narrow into single tracks flanked by wildflowers that locals pick for their midsommar wreaths every June. The Sörgården area where this property sits is among the quieter pockets of the island, which is saying something. The house itself was built in 1977 and sits on a 2,323 square metre plot that's been left largely natural — mature trees, mossy ground cover, that particular Swedish woodland character you can't manufacture. It's not manicured and it's better for it. The lot gives you genuine privacy, room for a kitchen garden if you want one, and space to add a sauna cabin down the line (many neighbours have done exactly that). At 55 square metres the house is compact but considered: an open kitchen and living area that work together rather than against each other, two bedrooms, one bathroom with shower and toilet, and a wood-burning stove that transforms the entire place on a cool September evening when the archipelago light turns a ... click here to read more
