Description
Let me just say, it’s a real treat to get to present a property like this, especially to my overseas clients and expats who might not know much about this corner of Norway, but are looking for something really special and authentic. I’m a pretty busy agent but I always try to give that extra local insight, so I want you to imagine yourself arriving by boat at Flesvikveien 286, right here in beautiful Snillfjord. This is one of those cabins—a chalet, really—that doesn’t come around often, and its story and location are definitely worth hearing about.
Let’s start with the location, because for many buyers from abroad, the setting is what Norway’s all about. Snillfjord is in Trøndelag, which isn’t the most famous region in Norway, but that means it’s less crowded and still really pure, with a lot of wild landscape everywhere you look. The cabin is on a little peninsula, so you’re completely surrounded by the fjord and forest, just water and sky out the windows. It’s a calm, private place but friendly for families or anyone who loves hiking, boating or fishing. The only way to get here is by boat—a lot of Norwegian cabins are like that—which makes arriving at your place feel like the start of a real adventure, every single time.
Now, to be honest, this chalet isn’t huge. It’s about 32 square meters, so you’re not hosting massive parties inside, but that’s not what most people want from a Norwegian cabin anyway. Usually, you’re spending half your time outdoors—there’s a terrace here that’s almost double the size of the inside, about 61 square meters, partly covered so you’re good in any weather. The terrace looks straight onto the fjord and the hills, and honestly, it sort of becomes your outdoor living room. Imagine taking your coffee out in the sun, or sitting with friends watching the long Norwegian twilight.
And that’s another big thing about life here—the light. In summer, it’s bright till almost midnight; you get those famous northern evenings where the sun never really goes down. People use the terrace all evening, grilling, unwinding, or just staring at the scenery. Winters are darker, no kidding, but it’s what makes the summer months feel even more special.
Inside, you get one main bedroom, with simple wood floors and panelled walls—really brings in that cabin feeling. It’s cozy, and the bedroom can actually fit several beds if you want to bring kids, or if you’re a group of friends who don’t mind bunking together. There’s no bathroom inside, something a lot of foreign clients aren’t used to, but you get a decent outhouse, and a storage shed, so you can tuck away your gear or summer things without cluttering up your living area. The kitchen and living space are open plan, with big windows and a wood stove, so after a chilly hike or fishing trip you’ve got a spot to warm up. The kitchen isn’t enormous but it’s got what you need for weekend meals, and enough cupboard space to keep things neat, even when a few people stay over.
One thing I should mention is the property size—over 2,000 square meters—so there’s loads of room for outdoor games, setting up a hammock, or making a firepit. Kids love it, especially with so much space to roam.
Amenities are pretty basic, but here’s a quick list so you get the picture:
- Boat access only (shared dock just below)
- Big terrace, 61 sqm, partly covered
- Great views, fjord and mountain everywhere you look
- Privacy: no near neighbours, quiet all hours
- Freehold title (so you own land and building)
- Lot size about 2,100 sqm
- Outdoor toilet (outhouse)
- Extra storage shed
- Wood-burning stove
- Open-plan lounge/kitchen
- Bedroom with space for many beds
- Natural light from several big windows
- Outdoor area great for grilling and relaxing
- 10-min walk to local public transport (bus stop)
- Grocery stores within about a 25-min drive
Now, the property itself is in good condition—built in 2004, kept up well since then, so you won’t need major repairs right away. It’s not a luxury home, but it’s got what you need and nothing that you’ll have to rip out and renovate right off the bat. Heating is mostly from the wood stove, so you will want to learn to start a fire or bring good blankets if you’re staying late into autumn. No running water or bathroom inside, so keep that in mind if you’re not used to the classic Norwegian setup—this is real cabin living, not a city flat.
One more thing, the community and the area: People are friendly, but you won’t have neighbours right on top of you. The local area is really about the outdoors—you can go hiking right from your doorstep, rent boats, or head off on fishing trips. There’s endless shoreline to discover, and if you like kayaking or just exploring little islands and inlets, you’ll never run out of places to go. Local wildlife is everywhere—birds, the odd deer, and a lot of fish in the fjord.
Living in a chalet here isn’t just about having a place to stay, it’s almost a way of life—not fancy, really peaceful, sometimes quiet, and always right on nature’s doorstep. If you want a place to relax, explore, or just switch off from the world, this might be what you’re looking for. And if you need more info about transport, local services, or advice about owning a cabin in Norway—I’m around, but you’ll have to bear with me if I don’t answer straight away, there’s just a lot going on these days!
Anyway, if you want to live by the water, have your own private space, and really get to know the wild side of Norway, let’s talk and I’ll help you get set up. This could be your hideaway in the fjords!
