The wood stove crackles to life around seven in the morning, and before you've finished your first coffee, the fog is already peeling back from the valley floor below. That's what mornings look like at Holskarvegen 111. By eight, you're lacing up your boots.
Eidslandet sits deep in Eksingedalen, one of those long, green valleys in Vestland county that most people never find unless someone who loves them points them toward it. The valley cuts southeast from the fjord country around Voss, flanked on both sides by ridgelines that build slowly toward the Stølsheimen massif — one of western Norway's most rewarding and least crowded mountain plateaus. This chalet sits at 587 metres above sea level, well above the treeline noise, and the silence up here has actual texture to it.
Built in 1977 and kept in genuinely good condition, the cabin is compact and honest — 49 square metres of indoor space arranged around a living room that earns its place as the centre of everything. The fireplace is not decorative. On October evenings when the temperature drops hard and fast, this is where everyone ends up: games on the table, rain drumming the roof, windows fogged. Three bedrooms mean you can bring the whole family or share the place with close friends without anyone feeling squeezed. The layout is smarter than the square footage suggests.
A 13-square-metre balcony pushes out from the main living area, and the orientation matters — you're looking out over the valley and up toward the high ground of Stølsheimen. On clear days in late July, you can pick out the snowfields that cling to the highest cols well into summer. That balcony becomes a second living room from May through September.
