Sunday morning in Elne moves at its own pace. The market on the Place de la République is already alive by nine — vendors stacking fat Roussillon peaches, wheels of aged sheep's cheese from the Pyrenean foothills, bottles of Banyuls and Maury that catch the light like dark garnets. You walk back up the hill with a baguette tucked under one arm, push open the gate, and drop everything beside the pool. The water is that particular shade of blue you only ever get under a southern French sky. This is what owning a house in Elne actually feels like.
