Description

Alright, thanks for getting in touch. I know you’re busy and want real, practical info when you’re checking out properties—so I’ll do my best to keep it detailed but not sugarcoat stuff.

Let me tell you a bit more about this chalet at Tverrfjellsvegen 258 in Stryn. I’ve been lucky to represent properties in plenty of corners of the world, but there’s something about this patch of Norway that always gets people’s attention. If you’re looking for a getaway or a family place—maybe you’re an expat coming in from overseas—this could really be worth your time to take a closer look at.

Starting with the property itself: This is a single-level chalet, built originally in 1978 but since has had some pretty good upgrades—not flashy, just honest work. Between 2016 and 2020, the owners did a lot: bigger living space, new bathroom, even some more modern touches. If you’re looking for ‘just move in’ type of place, this fits that, but keep in mind—this is a mountain cabin, so you’ll always have some ongoing upkeep as the nature here can be a bit tough on things!

You’d get 97 square meters of living space in the chalet, and you really feel it. Couple that with a corner plot of 340 m², and you’ve got enough outdoor space to enjoy the view but not so much you spend your whole vacation mowing grass. There’s no pool, but the natural ponds and lakes in the area are something else, seriously.

One of the best things here is the terrace—75m², which is a lot for a chalet. In summer, most people spend half their time out here, grilling or just sitting with friends. Might have to keep an umbrella ready just in case though, we’ll talk about climate in a minute.

Inside, the feel is open and simple. The main living room and kitchen are joined together, so if you like being in the middle of things, you’ll enjoy it. There’s space for a couple of couches and a big dinner table. Natural light pours through the big windows, which—especially in winter—feels priceless.

Bedrooms—three of them, all reasonable size. The main one is the largest, with storage, and the other two work well for kids or guests. The bathroom is in good shape, redone not long ago, so you won’t have to rush into any renovation there (that’s a big relief for most foreign buyers who can’t be onsite every weekend).

Heating is with a wood stove (which is really cozy in Norway’s winters), plus a newer electrical system. Fast internet’s in place—fiber—so you won’t be off the grid unless you want to be. Water and electricity are on the grid, less hassle there.

Amenities in brief:
- 3 good-sized bedrooms
- 1 modernised bathroom
- Open plan living/kitchen area
- Big wrap-around terrace, 75m²
- Fireplace/wood stove
- Fiber optic internet
- Laundry room
- Integrated kitchen appliances
- Ample storage
- Sheltered, private spot
- Mountain & landscape views
- Owned freehold plot 340m²

So, about the area—I get a lot of questions about this. Stryn is a small, mountain town that sits right on the doorstep of some of Norway’s best scenery. The winters are cold and snowy—pretty great for skiing. You’re just 150 meters from cross-country ski trails (literally just walk out and go), and 23 minutes from the local ski lift if downhill is more your thing. The town itself is about 16 minutes by car for groceries, supplies, or anything you forgot to bring, not too bad. There’s a bus stop within 10 minutes’ drive for those needing public transport.

For the other half of the year, people here spend their time hiking, swimming in lakes and ponds, and exploring the fjords just a short drive away. The plot sits at about 431 meters above sea—meaning views, but also some snow and chill in winter. You won’t get blazing hot summers, but there are some pretty good sunny days for being this far north. Bring a weatherproof jacket, for sure. The North Sea isn’t far, only about 2.3 kilometers, so you can fit in a beach walk too—though don’t expect Mediterranean temperatures in the water!

One of the best bits about living or staying in a chalet like this in Norway is peace and quiet—quiet nights, crisp air, endless stars in winter, and silence you can't really find in the city. For families, the area is child-friendly (no busy roads nearby), and it’s common for kids to play outside from morning till evening. If you’re buying from overseas, just know: things work a bit slower up here, people are friendly but not pushy, and nature sets the pace.

There’s always a bit of ongoing maintenance with chalets like this, but if you’re after a little project or just a cozy retreat (without having to rip out bathrooms or kitchens right away), this’ll tick a lot of boxes. The decoration inside isn’t super fancy, but it’s solid and practical—the stuff you actually need after a wet hike or a day out skiing.

I’d be happy to chat more about the buying process for overseas clients (there’s a bit of paperwork and a few practical hurdles, but it’s all totally do-able) and for expats, it’s worth knowing that Stryn is a very welcoming area, with both local Norwegians and quite a few international residents.

Finally—living in a chalet like this: it’s slower life, lots of nature, woodfires in winter, and sitting outside when the weather’s good. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it’s real Norwegian mountain life. If you’re looking for that, it doesn’t come much better than this.

Anything you need to know, just get in touch, but don’t wait too long—places in Stryn, especially with this combo of upgrades, size, and setting, aren’t always on the market for long! I’m in and out with viewings, but try me on email or phone and I’ll get back as soon as I can. Hope this helps—happy to send more pics or do a video call for you as well.
